The 13th annual Cancer Cruise of Sibley County will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Arlington Community/Event Center, 204 Shamrock Dr., Arlington, MN 55307. Kim Schwich from Green Isle has been selected as the 2024 recipient.

Kim was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) with metastasis in her abdomen in 2022, which later spread to both lungs in 2023. LMS is a rare form of cancer that affects approximately 6 out of 1 million people in the United States each year. Doctors attempted to slow down the growth of Kim's cancer with chemo treatments, but unfortunately Kim lost her courageous battle on February 28, 2024. Kim dedicated her entire life and career to serving others. She worked for the Salvation Army for over 20 years, where she responded to various natural disasters, more notably, recovery efforts in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, and in New York at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks. Kim’s doctors believe it was her work at Ground Zero that caused her LMS. All the 2024 funds raised will continue to be used for Kim's outstanding medical bills, and other expenses.

All orders will be available for pickup at the Arlington Community Center on Friday, May 31 from 2-6 PM, or on Saturday, June 1 starting at 10 AM (unless you’ve selected the shipping option--online orders only).
