CURRENT SPOTLIGHT ON ELECTRIC VEHICLES SPARKS NEW ATTRACTIONSAT 2022 TWIN CITIES AUTO SHOW Electric Vehicle Neighborhood, EV Test Drives, Luxury Electric Vehicle Ride-Alongs, and Official EV Spokesperson Paul Douglas to Energize Show Experience May 14 - 22 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds St. Paul, Minn. (April 22, 2022) --- The 49th annual Twin Cities Auto Show presented by Speedway® will return to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds Saturday, May 14 through Sunday, May 22, 2022. This year’s Show is sure to energize interest in the auto industry’s most buzzworthy trend: Electric Vehicles (EVs). The Greater Metropolitan Automobile Dealers Association of Minnesota, Inc. (GMADA), producers of the Twin Cities Auto Show, are excited to announce that the 2022 event will be the largest showcase of electric vehicles and electric technology in Show history. The EV market has grown significantly since the Twin Cities Auto Show debuted its “Green Room” at the 2011 Twin Cities Auto Show. That year, just over 16,000 battery and plug-in and hybrid electric vehicles had been sold in the U.S. By mid-2021, cumulative electric vehicle sales had surpassed 2 million*. “As EVs are taking off, the public is asking for more options to experience this technology,” says Scott Lambert, President of the GMADA. “So, we are incorporating a variety of opportunities into this year’s Show to both educate and entertain our attendees on the topic.” The Twin Cities Auto Show is delighted to announce that a record number of highly anticipated electric vehicles are schedule to be at the Show and available for the EV Ride & Drive experience. Attendees will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel and hit the streets of the fairgrounds in the below vehicles: Audi e-tron and Audi e-tron GT · Chevrolet Bolt EV and Chevrolet Bolt EUV · Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Mustang Mach E · Hyundai IONIQ · Jaguar I-PACE · Jeep Wrangler 4xe · Kia Niro EV EX, Kia EX Premium, Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD, Kia EV6 AWD · Polestar 2 · Volkswagen ID.4 · ** the North American public auto show debut of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Here are some of the EV attractions to be featured at this year’s Twin Cities Auto Show: The Electric Vehicle Neighborhood Powered by Xcel Energy will give attendees the chance to get up-close to the latest electric car options and learn more about electric vehicle technology. A full-size garage with a charging station will show how to charge at home. Staff will be on-site to discuss electric charging costs, logistics, and to provide information on where to charge in Minnesota and around the U.S. In addition to test driving standard vehicles, this year’s Show will offer the new Luxury Electric Vehicle Experience. A professional driver will take guests on a “ride-along” trip through a custom course on the Fairgrounds. The track will allow the pro drivers to demonstrate the vehicle’s cornering, acceleration, and other powerful capabilities. To help spread the word about all the Show’s EV focus, organizers have brought on Twin Cities media legend, self-proclaimed serial entrepreneur, and EV owner Paul Douglas, as Official Electric Vehicle Spokesperson for the Twin Cities Auto Show. Douglas, an American Meteorological Society Fellow, has 45 years of media experience. He currently contributes a daily weather column for the Star Tribune and co-hosts “The Paul & Jordana” show on WCCO Radio. Prior to the Show, Douglas will drive and experience as many makes and models as possible. He’ll give his WCCO AM “Paul & Jordana Show” listeners an on-the-spot live preview on Friday, May 13.
